The journey began long before the sun touched the horizon, driving through the dark, quiet forests of Western Australia's southern lands. Departing at 2 AM, I set out not with the assurance of photographic triumph, but driven by a pure desire to capture whatever I might find, beautifully.

As I drove, the sky was a blanket of cloud cover, dark and gloomy. Yet the ocean conditions were perfect. I told myself, 'Just go,' and launched into the dark, motoring my way down the coast on the jetski, greeted by the first light of day.

Upon arrival, a small gap appeared on the horizon; moments later, the sun lit up the clouds from underneath, and everything exploded into a fireball.

To have all the elements come together, to witness this powerful yet graceful, serpentine form of the wave at that exact moment, felt like observing a rare, ethereal, sculptural scene. I felt fortunate to be there.

This image isn't just a shot of a sunrise or a wave; it's a reminder of why it's worth persisting, continually positioning yourself for things to happen, challenging yourself to embrace the beauty of the unexpected.
