Anticipation

In the lead-up to leaving the house at 2am, driving down through the forests of the Southern Region of Western Australia, there’s time. Time for the mind to wander. Thoughts looping through all the variables, the possibilities, the hopes. Anticipation, and with it comes distraction. It pulls you out of the moment, You start chasing the idea of something instead of being there for the experience. As I made my way toward the Southern Coast, the first hint of morning arrived. A blanket of cloud covered everything. The kind of sky that closes things down. No colour, no glow, just a wall of grey. Expectations lowered dramatically. On arrival there was a tiny gap in the horizon, and it was more than enough. Light spilled through in every direction. The ocean caught fire. What was supposed to be a dull morning turned into something unforgettable. It reminded me how little I know. The importance of putting yourself in position for something good to happen. A fleeting show of light I’ll never forget.
