Summertime

I positioned myself in anticipation, stomach pressed to the sand, intending on letting the wave roll over me. I engaged the camera’s shutter, immersed in the moment as the sun’s rays pierced through the lip, illuminating the wave in a spectrum of blues and greens, capturing the very essence of summer on the coast. The ocean engulfed me, tumbling me along the sandbank in a fair reminder of the ocean’s power regardless of its size.

Taken a decade ago, during my early days of experimenting with a new waterproof housing for my camera, this image is the first wave image I was proud of. A record of when I stood at the beginning of my craft, embracing the unpredictable nature of my journey amongst the waves and the raw beauty of the Western Australian coastline all under the summer sun.
